In this article, we’ll define the differences between outsourcing and offshoring and the benefits of each. Outsourcing Offshoring In the world of IT, offshoring and outsourcing are two buzzwords that are often misunderstood or confused. While there’s some overlap between the two, they are distinct business strategies with their own set of advantages and drawbacks. Without further ado, let’s lift off the fog of confusion. Outsourcing refers to an organization contracting work out to a 3rd party, while offshoring refers to getting work done in a different country, usually to leverage cost advantages. It's possible to outsource work but not offshore it; for example, hiring an outside law firm to review contracts instead of maintaining an in-house staff of lawyers. Unlike outsourcing, offshoring is primarily a geographic activity.

Man kan på sätt och vis säga att offshoring är en väldigt specifik variant av outsourcing som går ut på att man placerar och bemannar delar av sin verksamhet i ett annat land för att få del av antingen billigare arbetskraft, eller mer och bättre kompetens. Vad är skillnaden mellan offshoring och outsourcing? Outsourcing avser en organisation som utarbetar ett arbete till en tredje part, medan offshoring avser att få arbete gjort i ett annat land, vanligtvis för att utnyttja kostnadsfördelar. De stora skillnaderna mellan outsourcing och offshoring förklaras nedan: Outsourcing avser överföring av icke-kärnverksamhet till en annan organisation som har specialisering i det arbetet. Offshoring avser flyttning av företagets verksamhet till något annat land, där kostnaden för att driva sådan verksamhet är lägre än hemlandet. Syftet med denna studie har varit att analysera outsourcing och offshoring av producenttjänster.
